The southern African edition of Space is the Ultimate Luxury: Capitalists, Conservationists and Ancestral Land in Namibia was launched on 24 January 2026 at Holy Trinity Roman Catholic Church in Karasburg. This venue was chosen to bring the discussion closer to the communities whose history and struggles the book documents. The experiences of the Bondelswarts Nama community - whose ancestral land use along the Orange River predated colonial dispossession and continues despite increasing pressure from private landowners and ‘conservationists’ - are foregrounded in the book. These conversations with members of the Bondelswarts Traditional Authority were fruitful both in the writing of the book and in the discussions at its launch in Karasburg. The authors, Bernard C. Moore and Luregn Lenggenhager, were able to distribute and sell several dozen copies to community members, and all proceeds went to support the local kindergarten. The book launch was a success, and we want to specifically thank Mr Joseph Rooi (the official historian of the Bondelswarts Traditional Authority) for his opening remarks and inputs. The Karasburg Book Launch was followed by another in Windhoek at the National Archives of Namibia on 4 February 2026.
