Jimmy Awany and Ponsiano Bimeny: The challenge of state-making in South Sudan
About the event:
Conventional interpretations of Civil Society often overlook the myriad ways in which civic actors constitute authority and negotiate for change in fragile states. This omission has significant implications on how civil society sectors evolve and receive external support.
Drawing on South Sudan as a case study, this webinar will explore how civil society is shaped and constructed, and how civic actors navigate different spaces within a conflict context, shrinking civil society space and international influence to impact peace.
The webinar will feature Jimmy Awany (SOAS Alumnus) in conversation with Ponsiano Bimeny (SOAS University of London).
