Charlwood has rarely been without a camera by his side ever since he first picked one up for a visit to the Yanomami in Rondônia, Brazil. Cameras have accompanied him to many places "where the hand of man rarely sets foot", most recently Eritrea. He has exhibited his photographs in Manaus (Brazil), São Tomé, the UK, Holland, Denmark and Portugal.
