Job: Lectureship in Postcolonial Hispanophone and Francophone Studies

The Faculty of Modern and Medieval Languages and Linguistics at the University of Cambridge is seeking to appoint a University Lecturer in Postcolonial Hispanophone and Francophone Studies for five years (fixed term). We invite applications from candidates with outstanding research and teaching potential in Hispanophone and Francophone Studies of postcolonial cultures, broadly understood, including Caribbean Studies. Expertise will be required in one or more of literature, film and visual culture, and history, and in relation to such research areas as studies within the Global South, Postcolonial/Decolonial Theory, Critical Race Theory, Migration Studies, and International Slavery Studies. Special attention may be given to candidates whose expertise connects Hispanophone and Francophone Studies.

The successful candidate will normally hold a PhD in the relevant specialist subject area and will have a record of, or clear potential for, outstanding research. Appointees will be expected to:

  • engage in high-level research,
  • publish in their specialist field,
  • teach and examine undergraduates,
  • supervise and examine MPhil and/or PhD postgraduate work,
  • contribute to research- and teaching-related administration,
  • seek funding for their research appropriate to their career stage.
