Language Teacher: Swahili / Fixed-term for one year / Hourly Paid (£40.92 per hour)
We are recruiting for an enthusiastic language teacher with a proven track record of teaching Swahili, preferably in a UK Higher Education environment.
Attracting some 2,000 students annually, the Cambridge University Language Programmes (CULP) offer language training to all members of the University through a mixture of open access and special purpose courses. Learner profiles include a range of undergraduate and graduate students as well as staff of the University, covering a wide variety of nationalities and mother tongues. Our teaching and learning methodology blends face-to-face contact with online learning.
The role includes writing exams, teaching in a blended-learning mode, marking/examining and associated administration. Our language teachers are expected to contribute to the maintenance and enhancement of the Language Centre’s reputation for excellence in teaching and learning.
We currently plan to offer one Basic level course during our Michaelmas and Lent terms (15 x 2-hr sessions over 15 weeks, October to March), most likely running in late afternoon/evening slots (to be confirmed during the enrolment period). We hope to be able to offer an extension to this course in the Easter term but that will be subject to student interest.
You will be educated to first degree level, preferably in languages and/or applied linguistics, and hold a recognized qualification in teaching Swahili as a foreign language or have engagement in professional development within their language teaching experience. You will be engaged on a fixed-term Worker basis, subject to satisfactory enrolments on the course offered.
