Job: Visiting Fellowship Programme

Faculty of Social Sciences at the University of Copenhagen (UCPH)

The Faculty of Social Sciences at the University of Copenhagen (UCPH) is launching a new Visiting Fellowship Programme and will start accepting fellows from 2019. The ambition of the programme is to attract world-leading social scientists who want to spend up to three months in Copenhagen and collaborate with members of our faculty.

Target group of the fellowship

The programme offers both ‘junior’ and ‘senior’ fellowships:

  • Junior fellowships are targeted at relatively early career scholars with a promising research agenda compatible with research interests of UCPH faculty members.
  • Senior fellowships are targeted at merited scholars with a well-established research agenda compatible with research interest of UPCH faculty members.

For junior fellows, the requirement is a current position as assistant professor or similar, and for senior fellows a position as associate or full professor.

Fellowships can be awarded either related to research and teaching in the core disciplines of one of the five departments making up the Faculty of Social Sciences or related to interdisciplinary research and teaching that bridges two or more departments and/or disciplines.

In the period 2019 to 2021, it applies to both types of scholarships that priority will be given to scholars working in the current strategic focus areas of the Faculty of Social Sciences:

  • Social Data Science
  • Social sciences health research
  • Global security, global development and sustainable societies

Further information about the strategic focus areas can be found in the Faculty of Social Sciences' Strategic Goals 2018-22.

However, strong applicants with other focus areas may be considered as well.

Tasks associated with the fellowship

Visiting fellows are expected to participate in the academic life of the host departments and the Faculty. Specific tasks and expectations will be agreed individually with the host department, dependent on the length of the visit, the profile of the fellow, and the interests of members of UCPH faculty.

Activities associated with the fellowship typically include:

  • conducting research in collaboration with UCPH faculty members
  • developing research projects and proposals for research funding with UCPH colleagues
  • supervise and/or teaching UCPH MA and PhD students
  • disseminating research to university stakeholders
Conditions

The fellowship last between one and three months.

The fellowship includes funding of costs for one return ticket from the fellow’s home to Copenhagen, accommodation during the fellowship, access to office facilities, library services etc. The fellowship does not include a salary.

The fellowship will also entail a social programme, introducing the fellows to relevant colleagues as well as to the City of Copenhagen.
