Artist in Residence: Thembi Dunjana
Thembi Dunjana will spend two weeks in Basel. The South African pianist will work on her next project entitled Stories of the New, which she will record in New York later this year.
Deeply rooted in Cape Town’s jazz heritage, Thembi Dunjana fuses these influences with elements of neo-soul and the hard-swinging energy of artists like McCoy Tyner and Moses Molelekwa – without being confined to any single genre. During her time in Basel, she will collaborate with vibraphonist Sonja Huber, bassist Luca Sisera, and drummer Valeria Zangger, and work on brand-new compositions and will present them at the bird's eye jazz club on 23 and 24 September 2025. Thembi will also do a solo performance at the Centrum DKMS in St. Gallen on Sunday 14 September 2025.
