Call for papers: "Geopolitics, Development and New Visions for Africa"

17th Nyerere Symposium, 28–30 May 2026, Mwalimu Julius Nyerere Professorial Chair on Pan-African Studies, University of Dar es Salaam, Tanzania

The Mwalimu Julius Nyerere Professorial Chair on Pan-African Studies at the University of Dar es Salaam invites scholars, practitioners, and students to submit papers for the upcoming symposium, part of the 17th Mwalimu Julius Nyerere   intellectual Festival. As part of this year’s programme, the Chair will host a high-level symposium under the theme: "Geopolitics, Development, and New Visions for Africa". This timely gathering will offer critical reflections and forward-looking  dialogue on Africa’s place in a changing global order, its development trajectories, and the emerging paradigms shaping the continent’s future.

Sub-themes:

  • Africa in a multipolar world;
  • Resource politics and sustainability;
  • Pan-Africanism and continental integration;
  • Knowledge, innovation and human capital;
  • Global partnerships and policy choices;
  • Gender, youth and climate justice;
  • Decolonization, repatriation, and human remains;
  • In search for new visions for Africa.
