Call for papers: "The Cartography Trouble: Counter-cartographies and paradigm shifts"

Colloquium "The Cartography Trouble: Counter-cartographies and paradigm shifts", Sorbonne University, Paris, 7–9 September 2026

The call for papers for the colloquium “The Cartography Trouble: Counter-cartographies and paradigm shifts,” which will take place in Paris from September 7-9, 2026, is now open. The colloquium aims to outline the contours of today's alternative cartographic dynamics and understand what they say about the contemporary challenges facing cartography. The theory and practice of cartography and counter-cartography will be examined in light of their contrasts.

The colloquium is organized by the “Méditation-s – Sciences des lieux, sciences des liens” geography research group at Sorbonne University, the Pléiade multidisciplinary research center of the "UFR Lettres, Langues, Sciences humaines et des Sociétés“ at Sorbonne Paris Nord University, and the ”Comité National Français de Géographie (CNFG)“ in partnership with the ”Institut national d'information géographique et forestière (IGN)“ and the ”Diplomatura de Pregrado en Prácticas Cartográficas en América Latina".

It will be held in four languages: French, German, Spanish and English.
