New CD: Carlo Mombelli live at the bird's eye 2009-2018
South African bass wizard and composer Carlo Mombelli just released a new CD documenting a decade of performances a the bird's eye jazz club in Basel
In the beginning there was a short stint of the Prisoners of Strange in Basel in Basel in 2009, followed by a residency at the bird's eye jazz club and the Centre for African Studies Basel in 2010 supported by the Swiss arts council Pro Helvetia. Since then Carlo Mombelli visited the club time and again - and recorded most of the concerts live. This is a wonderful compilation documenting essential compositions of Carlo Mombelli and his cooperation with fantastic musicians from South Africa and Switzerland alike.
