Concert: Amadou & Mariam (MLI)
Fresh pop from Mali: the duo Amadou & Mariam from Bamako has been busy creating a melting pot of genres since the 1980s and their reputation stretches far and wide. Their blend of afro-beat, pop and folk continues to be developed by the blind duo, whose albums have also been produced by Manu Chao and Damon Albarn (Blur / Gorillaz). Albarn was the producer of their album «Welcome to Mali», which in 2009 earned Amadou & Mariam a Grammy nomination in the World Music category. Their next album «Folila» featured renowned western musicians such as Santigold or TV On The Radio. Venturing yet further into unchartered realms, their latest album «La Confusion» in 2017 wantonly flirts with funk and disco. The single «Bafou Safou» is an enthralling afro-beat-disco track, whose remix version by the accomplished House producer Henrik Schwarz is the perfect club sound. Amadou & Mariam have become the face of African pop music and you can dance yourself warm to their sounds in December.
