Nadia Bellardi & Selina Bloch: "Intimacies in Motion: Love and Belonging across Borders and Generations"
In this session, Nadia and Selina explore the entanglements of love, belonging, and mobility in Europe and Tajikistan by presenting their doctoral research proposals.
Nadia’s participatory, multimodal ethnography traces the affective landscapes, memories, and desires of mothers and daughters with mobile biographies through a sound collage of fragmented stories and experimental soundscapes. Her focus lies on (queer) becoming and belonging against persisting and intersecting xenophobia, homophobia, and anti-Muslim hatred in late-capitalist societies. The research is part of the SNF-funded project “Inherited Futures? Objects, Time, Knowledge”.
Selina, in her ethnographic fieldwork in Tajikistan, draws on the region's Persian literary heritage and its contemporary local interpretations to explore the multilayered dimensions of love. She aims to research love’s political potential as it shapes, disrupts, and maintains social bonds beyond the scope of marriage and households, looking instead at spaces and moments of solidarity, friendship and spirituality. Join us in this session to engage in discussions on how we (could) navigate complex research ethics and methodological questions.
