Call for applications for temporary teaching position

Seeking temporary instructors to teach courses related to African American music, improvised music, and creative music during AY 2019-20. We invite applications from musicians and scholars to teach courses that fall under either or both of the following two categories: 1) undergraduate “music and culture” courses in a lecture-discussion format, including courses aimed at fostering dialogue between Music majors and African American Studies majors (possible courses include Jazz History, Hip Hop, and other topics in African American music, with potential for cross-listing with African American studies); and/or 2) graduate-level seminars, individual instruction and performance-based ensemble courses that focus on improvisation and African American creative music traditions, directed primarily at students in the PhD program in Integrated Composition, Improvisation and Technology (possible courses include graduate seminars in practical or theoretical topics, performance ensembles, and individual composition instruction).

Required qualifications include a bachelor’s degree in music, previous experience teaching in university and college environments, and a record of professional activity as a musician or scholar.

Preferred qualifications include a master’s or doctoral degree in music or the equivalent in professional experience, a significant record of professional contributions to the field as a musician or scholar, and previous university-level teaching experience as instructor of record.
