Job description
The University of Sussex is seeking to appoint a postdoctoral researcher to work on a Leverhulme Trust funded project, ‘Global Soldiers in the Cold War: Making Southern Africa’s Liberation Armies’ (RPG-2019-198)’.

The successful candidate will join a team of researchers spanning Oxford and Sussex. The post will carry out oral historical and ethnographic research on veterans of Angolan liberation movement armies under the direction of the CI (based in Sussex), will collaborate and publish with other team members, and undertake other tasks as directed.

The post entails significant field research within Angola, as well as a majority of time spent in the UK analyzing and writing, plus international travel to present findings at conferences.

The successful candidate will have a doctorate in a relevant discipline as well as experience and language skills necessary for fieldwork in Angola. They will have a demonstrable record of publication in academia.

Hours: Full time or part time hours considered up to a maximum of 1.0 FTE. Requests for flexible working options will be considered (subject to business need)

Salary: Grade 7 starting at £33,199 and rising to £39,609 per annum
