Call: Academic CODES – I International Congress for Young Researchers on Africa
Nanou Ki Association, specialized in sustainable development and Human Rights, in collaboration with the University of Valladolid, convenes the First Congress of Young Researchers on Africa as a meeting place for all those interested in sharing their knowledge with the academic community. After the experience of the two previous editions of the Congreso Formativo en Cooperación Internacional (currently Congreso Formativo en Desarrollo Sostenible –CoDeS–), there is now a need to organize an Academic Congress that welcomes students, academics and professionals interested in research and the dissemination of African Studies.
The organization will accept contributions that examine the local, regional, national and international dimensions of issues related to this subject. This will serve as a framework for reflection in which interdisciplinary studies can be accommodated. Since this Congress is part of the III CoDeS, the theme will revolve around the national and international policies imposed on African countries and the resistance generated against those policies.

Africa screams! How far do their voices go?
Africa is one of the most unknown, ignored and abused parts of the world to date. When last year we launched the theme "Africa, a continent condemned by prejudice and globalisation" we did not expect to discover a society so eager to shout, to take possession of its existence and to claim ownership of its image and dignity, even in our closest reality.
Having created this space for inclusion, so necessary and absent previously, we believe that a second edition is required to consolidate all the knowledge that was exhibited in the previous one and explore it from new yet unknown aspects such as art and the world of resistances and social movements, among others.
Call for Papers
This Congress will be held at the University of Valladolid on 4 October 2019 and will form part of the III CoDes, whose programme will can be consulted soon.
The aim of this Congress is to address different lines of research and work that are grouped into the following topics focused on Africa:
- Sustainable development
- Social movements and resistances
- Art and cultural claims
- Economic and commercial relations
- Governance, peace and Human Rights
- Conflict and political violence
- International Relations: South-South cooperation, European Union, China
- Anthropological studies
- Demography and Society
- Archaeology and History
- Colonization and decolonization processes
- Health policies
- Education and youth
- Gender and women's empowerment
- Migratory flows
- Innovation and Technology
The First International Congress for Young Researchers on Africa is open to all those who wish to participate. Communications may be signed by a maximum of two authors and only one proposal per author may be submitted. Papers must constitute an original collaboration not previously published and may preferably be written in Spanish, although papers in English will also be accepted.
Proposals should be sent to the following email address: codes.academico@clutternanouki.com , and the deadlines for submission are as follows:
- 30 March 2019: deadline for submission of proposals.
- Until the end of April 2019: email will send to participants with accepted proposals.
- 15 July 2019: deadline for sending full texts of participants.
A Second Circular (in April) will specify the rules of presentation and editing of communications, as well as instructions for registration and the specific place of celebration.
