Konzert: Bassekou Kouyaté and Ngoni Ba
He is "a genius and living proof that the blues comes from Mali," says Taj Mahal about his colleague Bassekou Kouyate. Bassekou is considered the best ngoni player in the world (ngoni is a traditional West African string-instrument), and has already performed on stage with artists such as Ali Farka Touré, Toumani Diabaté, Taj Mahal or Sir Paul McCartney and participated several times in Damon Albarn's "Africa Express". With his groovy band "Ngoni ba", which consists of 3 Ngonis of different tunings, various percussion instruments and the singer Amy Sacko, he has performed worldwide at renowned festivals such as Glastonbury, Roskilde, Fuji Rock or the North Sea Jazz Festival and in concert halls such as the Elbphilharmonie. In 2013 he was named "best African artist of the year" by the BBC.
