Symposium: "Africa beyond Liberal Democracy"
The Actuvirtual Symposium engages with "Africa beyond Liberal Democracy: In Search of Context-Relevant Models of Democracy for the Twenty-First Century", edited by Reginald M.J. Oduor (Lexington Books 2022). It will be discussed how African and Africanist scholars from a variety of disciplines in the humanities and social sciences, and based in South Africa, Zimbabwe, Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Nigeria, Ghana, India, Sweden and Finland, examine the view that what has repeatedly failed in Africa is liberal democracy with its individualist orientation rather than democracy as such. There will also be reflections on possible alternatives to liberal democracy in contemporary African contexts.
