In diesem Kernbereich befassen wir uns mit künstlerischen Ausdrucksformen im weitesten Sinn – sowohl mit Kunstformen wie auch mit Alltags- und Populärkultur: Malerei, Skulptur, Architektur, Musik, Theater, Literatur, Mode, Tanz, Film, Rituale sowie verschiedenen religiösen und weltlichen Ausdrucksweisen. Kunst, Kultur und Urbanismus deckt alle Formen von Ausdruck und Artikulation ab: Wie Menschen miteinander in Beziehung treten, wie sie Sozialität produzieren, wie sie ihrem Leben Sinn geben, wie sie in ihrem sozialen Leben von Medien Gebrauch machen, wie sie ihre Häuser und Städte bauen, und wie sie ihre Städte leben.
